Last week, we packed up the office and the baby (yep, Oscar too!) and headed to the mountains. We've been working on this little cottage in North Carolina for a few months now. The scale and textures of this sweet place reminds us so much of the English countryside. With the base layer set in, we just need to bring in the top layer - our favorite. We hit up all of the town's antique shops plus quite a few out of town in search of the perfect rugs, side tables, lamps, artwork, and accessories. NYC's Fat Radish took a trip down to South Carolina for a weekend Pop-Up at Basic Kitchen! The weekend was filled with delicious food, live music, and lots of dancing. We couldn't have pulled off such an amazing weekend without The Fat Radish crew and the Basic Kitchen team coming together for a magical weekend. This past October, three weeks before we opened Basic Kitchen, our office decided to do a cleanse to get us in the right mindset! We did our own version of Goop's 3-day Anti-Bloat Summer Reset Cleanse. We used the same ingredients, but slight adjustment to the dishes, so they were closer to the dishes we were serving at Basic Kitchen. We still followed the guidelines - No Dairy, No Soy, No Caffeine, No Sugar, No Nightshades, No Gluten and No Alcohol. For example, we did our Veggie Curry with cauliflower rice instead for the Turkey Curry Plate, and we did our Rainbow Bowl instead of Vietnamese Salad with Chicken. The cleanse was surprisingly filling and much kinder than the juice cleanses we had all done before. We were hooked! We were ready to open and bring the goodness to all ! Thank you Goop :)
As luck would have it, we were included in their Charleston Visitor Guide a few weeks later!
In October a few of us from Basic Projects burned a LOT of calories during the Gran Fondo Hincapie bicycle race- 50 miles of calories to be exact. There is something to be said about pushing through that intense thigh burn. Not trying to get too cheesy over here but, life is about the ride- thigh burn and all!
